News About Release Dates

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 27, 2008, 5:06 PM

Hello everyone, after some calculations related to the release of the comics, I think I've found a good solution. First of all, comics are divided in four sections. This was how most of the older Archie Sonic comics functioned, and I think it's good. It gives the reader a break after about 5-8 pages and allows them to anticipate the next section. So, I have decided that releases will be every two weeks and I'll release one part of an issue during that time.

So, to outline the future release schedule for the rest of issue 1, it should go something like this:
  • Part 2: August 11th

  • Part 3: August 22nd (Pending)

  • Part 4: September 5th (Pending)

Part 3 and 4 are pending as of now just because it is hard to set a solid date that far in advance until I get closer to completion.

That's about all for now, if you have any questions about the comic or anything, let me know. Remember to visit the site at Miles Prower: Celestial Flight. On a side note, I'll be gone from August 2nd until the 6th because I'm finally going on vacation to Seattle. My aunt and uncle live up there on Bainbridge Island (20 feet away from the bay) so I'll have a blast.

Take care!

IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT RELEASE DATE

Mon Jul 21, 2008, 12:43 AM
This update is copied from what I wrote in the Sega of America Forums in regard to the August 1st release date.

Ok, so I got word tonight of some very bad news. One of my good friends passed away this morning from seizures caused by a blood clot in her heart. I worked with her on many school projects and she was a very kind hearted person. I'll be gone a few days for her services and it is highly unlikely I can still make the August 1st deadline I made for myself. I'm still trying to figure out how long it actually takes me to finish these pages and therefore it is difficult to actually estimate a release date for a whole issue (of over 20 pages).

So I have decided to go about releasing the comic in a different way. And I think this way will cause me to have a whole lot less stress and it will make for more regular updates on the comic (originally I was thinking of releasing one full issue every two months--so 1 day of releases, 2 months of silence pretty much.)

I have a solution to this. Since each comic has 4 parts to it (much like the older Sonic Archie comics had) I will be releasing a part every 2 weeks. There will still be 4 parts in every issue, but this will allow me to be more consistent, achieve reasonable deadlines, and keep the site busy since there will be more new material (just in less quantity). This Wednesday, the 23rd, I will be releasing Part 1 of the first issue. Granted it's only 5 pages, but it will be something released. I may be able to make the August 1st date for part 2's release (this is pending and isn't set in stone). But we'll see.

Sorry about the delay, I hate breaking promises of release dates, it lowers my credibility and believe it or not, it sort of makes me feel disgusted with myself. But with the current circumstances of my friend and the inexperience of publishing works of art, I think it will be for the better in the long run.

I'll be on here very seldom these next few days as I attend the funeral and such. All in all, take care and enjoy the first part when I upload it this Wednesday.

(Also, the art contest is still available.)

Celestial Flight CONTEST!

Wed Jul 16, 2008, 7:20 PM
I posted this in news, but I think it would be good to have it posted on my journal as well! Currently, I am creating a web comic based around Tails as you can see. So, I would like to host a contest associated with the comic. It is pretty straightforward. If you have a piece of artwork (new or old) associated with the Sonic franchise (fan characters are fine) that you would like to submit, just send me it with the following information to tails@miles-prower.com or send it to me through deviantART.

When submitting your art, please include:
Your Name/Alias (like deviantART username)
Your Age

The first issue is to be released August 1st. If your artwork is selected, you will be notified and your information along with the piece of art will be included in this month's issue.

The deadline is July 30th so submit away! And again, it doesn't have to be new work, anything you submit is fine as long as it is Sonic related. I'll announce winners on July 31st! Good luck!

Celestial Flight Comic

Tue Jul 15, 2008, 7:44 PM
I have been working my ass off on Celestial Flight. It is a web comic based around Miles Prower (Tails) of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. I can't complain though, it has been a blast creating the comic. And I really anticipate its release date on August 1st. The entirety of the comic has been a slow process. I never knew creating a comic would take so many steps. However, in my brief experience undertaking this task, I've figured it takes the following abilities:

Sketching
Inking
Scanning (a skill that will help the following immensely)
Coloring
Shading
Writing

Those are the key ingredients. Of course I believe it takes innate ability and determination as well. However, the best thing about it is definitely the finished product. Though I have to admit I finished a page today and only felt it to be a mediocre piece of work. Oh well, it's not as bad as Sonic's butchered face on my first comic cover, haha.
